Oil Filter Adapter Advice Please
Good Morning All,
I have a 1958 F-100 with a 292. I purchased an oil filter adapter that permits spin on filter use. Here's my problem: When I remove the original filter canister and filter I see a 1-1/4" nut that the casiter mounted to. I assume this nut holds a plate similar to the adapter plate in the kit. I can spin the original plate with the curved oval hole. But I can not get the 1-1/4" nut loose. I have started to round off the nut and decided to stop and ask this group while there is still enough nut to grab.
The replacement nipple in the kit is 1-1/4" and the threads sure appear to be right-handed. I had to grind down the tapered edge of my 1-1/4" socket to get a full bite on the nut, but no help. That nut won't budge. Am I missing something important?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Good Afternoon All,
Thanks for all the advice. I ground down my 1-1/4" socket to get full contact on the low-profile nut. I put an 18" cheater bar on my 1/2" drive socket. I huffed and puffed. I scraped my arm on the crappy weld on my PO's exhaust manifold-to-second-exhaust-pipe. And then, much to my complete and utter embarrasment, I realized I was pulling clockwise on a righthand thread. What a dope!!
A couple quick pushes counter-clockwise and off came the OE adapter plate. Inspection of the original plate revealed I cracked it when I over-tightened it. The spin-on adapter plate went on without a hitch.
In my defense, I'm a little dyslexic and find more left-right confusion as I'm aging. But, this was a story that was just too good not to share.
Thanks Again,
Dave
