Hey I was just wondering why my 1997 F150 4x4 vibrates hard when I take off from a stop with the wheels turned. If I let off the gas the vibration goes away or if I turn straight it goes away. This only happens when I'm just starting from a stop sign or something, never on the highway but maybe I don't need to turn that hard on the highway??? Anyways I was just wondering if anyone knew if it would be ball joints, tie rods, anything??? The truck has 60,000 miles but she's nearly ten years old too. Any info will help guys, thanks, schmidty
Actually just a few months ago. The truck was serviced by its original owner, a friend of my dads who owned the truck from new until he sold it to my dad 2 years ago. Yes I do believe I have the Limited Slip rearend. This guy is a tractor mechanic and is very meticulous but that doesn't mean that something isn't just worn out. I'll give my dad a call tomorrow and ask him to ask exactly what fluid was put in it. If I have something going bad would it be easy for me to change or should I take it somewhere. I am a jet engine mechanic in the air force so I really don't have any problem gettin dirty and changing parts, but meshing gears would make me a bit nervous. Thanks for the input. schmidty
my guess is he overlooked a big item. he forgot to add the important tube or (2) of friction modifier and added straight gear lube so the clutches are not slipping like they should.
Well I'm pretty sure he didn't put the stuff in so I think I'm gonna get a tube or whatever and add it and see what happens. Will my clutches be shot or damaged or is there anything I need to look for or do?
Try replacing the rear shock absorbers and/or rear tires if worn. We had a long thread on this last year and I finally solved this problem on my 98F150. Had the exact symptoms. Tried, the Ujoint, all the modifiers etc with no luck. Finally replaced the shocks and tires and have not had the problem since. Hope this helps.
