Message Center in an FX4?

Message Center in an FX4?
Sorry for the stupide question, but I have the three buttons on the right side of the steering wheel that say; info, reset, and something else. Are they just there for looks??? When I push the nothing happens!!
If they are for looks how hard would it be to add the Lariats message center functions?

After further review I do not even have a trip odometer!!!! If I do how do I display it???I have pushed every button I can think of and still can not get the trip odometer to display. Am I missing something?

Thanks guys, but I have checked both!! Sorry for being dense. The owners manual tells me how to use it, but the buttons don't do anything. When I had my 04 Lariat you would hear a beep when it switched menus. I am going to give the dealer a call next week to see if they can help. I can see the total number of miles, but I can not reset one to check total take usage. I am currently doing it the old fashioned way (current miles minus previous fill up miles).

The message center in my '04 FX4 is pretty basic - press the button and the display cycles through three modes - odometer and two trip meters. Press and hold the button while in tripmeter mode and it resets. No sound. FWIW, I had to have my message center replaced because the backlight quit. That involved replacing the entire gauge cluster (which required a special order part ordered and installed while under warranty by my local dealership).

Found the problem!!! I didn't have the "stick" sticking out to toggle through the options (trip and odometer), but I do have the hole in the cluster.
I will call the dealer Monday! Thanks for your help!!
