Steering Column Bearings
My '97 f350 has a loose feeling steering column, and I have been told by Ford mechanic that the steering column bearings need to be replaced. Apparantly this is common wear when using the steering wheel to climb into truck.
Has anyone replaced these bearings?
If so, how difficult of a job is it?
Any suggestions?

I had the same problem on my 94 Powerstroke. Actually changing the bearings isn't too hard, but I let mine go too long and ruined the actual steering shaft. Then it still had a little play in it and the new bearings were gone within two weeks, so make sure not to put it off. There is also a kit that has the spring, snap ring, steering wheel bolt and other spacers/bushings you will need. I thnk I got everything for under $30. The hardest parts are disconnecting the starter switch activator (plastic) and getting the tilt spring back in if you have it. Good luck. Oh yeah, when you go to for for the parts ask them to print out the steering column diagram. I needed it since some of my parts were completely gone and I didn't know which order to put them back in.
