Question How rare are 1957 F100's?

Someone told me the 1957 F100's are extremely rare. I know someone who owns one and I was wondering the value and if I could afford to buy it. It is supposed to have the original engine and most of the body and interior. It's in OK condition, but needs completely restored.
I want a project car for my husband and 17 yr-old daughter to work on in their spare time. Is this a good one to restore and would the value hold up? any info would be appreciated.

Welcome to FTE trklvr. The 1957 F100's aren`t extremely rare, just some what as most old vehicles this age. Still very nice classic looking trucks and simple to work on depending on the rust and present state that it`s in.
The value should hold up as well as any old vehicle, usually a money pit but with careful planning it won`t be too bad if most of the work can be done at home. Good luck and keep us posted on the out come.

They are not particularily rare and the 57-60s are kind of know as the orphans, not as popular as the 48-56s. Still a nice truck though my first car was a 60 f-100

As I recollect there were around 100,000 of the 1st (i.e. 1957) of the "Orphan Years Trucks" manufactured & depending on the condition & how badly the owner wishes to sell, you can find them priced from $150.00 (restorable)-$2,500.00 (unrestored daily driver).
If it's a "Custom Cab" w/ the " Large Wrap Around Rear Windscreen" & a good portion of the "Options" installed, it'll be closer to the Former price & if it's just a "Plain Jane" it'll be closer to the Latter price.
But again, this all depends on the Owner & how much he knows about the truck you desire. Just be sure to Not tip your hand if you know more than he does about the "Olde Girl".
Cheque out my "Gallery" if you wish to View some of the "Options" that were available for our "Orphan Years Trucks" & Welcome to FTE.

First, there is so much misinformation on old trucks - people watch the shows on TV or visit different car shows that feature the best of the best, and assume any one of the trucks will fetch this price. This is just wrong -

The best place to get pricing information is off eBay - and look at the trucks that actually sell, not those whose owners are dreaming. I have bought that model off ebay for $100 (no motor) and again $700 - complete but not running with some rust. A really nice un-restored one in great shape may go as high as $2500.

I would be a bit careful buying a project for someone else - the problem is rust repair. If your husband has those skills and can do them at home it is not too expensive, but if he has to farm the repairs out it gets very expensive very quick.

It is better to spend more for a rust-free truck. On those models look at the front of the step/bottom of the door pillar for rust damage.

Good luck and let us know how things work out!
