has any one tried double bright or halogen
6volt 1154 tail light bulbs
just to get a little more brightnes out of the tail lights?
post your input
thanks Joe
I've got a 12V system, but still needed more light for daily driving. I run 2357 bulbs - nearly twice as bright. Also I painted the inside of the taillight buckets flat white for better reflectivity. Then added a third brakelight in the rear window - one of those 10" led units.
I went to all this after I got rear-ended 4 years ago. No problems since.
If you have the original wiring make sure the socket contacts are clean and bright, and try adding an auxilliary ground wire between the housing and the frame.
Do the make higher power bulbs in 6V?
In addition to getting the brighter number bulbs, I added a piece of bright aluminum foil to the inside of both light housings. MUCH better. Good luck, Jag
The white painted tail-light inside, is a much better reflector over the tin foil. Be care full of the Halogen Bulbs very hot on the plastic lenses. I have a pair but have not yet tried them as my 6 Volt tail lights are nice and bright as they are.
Good idea on the 3rd brake light, I think I will install one this season.
When I was still runnning 6v, I ran new 16 ga wires to EACH brake light, and a single 14 ga for the running lights, to Sylvania "long Life " bulbs. Made a big difference!
Not sure what system you've got for turn signals, but the wiring in my SignalStat loom was my "weak link", only 20 ga, so I replaced as much of it as possible.
BTW I am also going to put a third brake light on the top of my bed's front rail -- people are used to looking there! It will probably be LED,, like MT's.
