How many miles on your Bronco II
#17
I bought an '89 BII last September for $450. The 2.9L motor has 168K miles on it and runs okay. It does leak some oil, but not too much.
So far, I had to put new brakes on the front and had a new flexplate put on. Then wouldn't you know it: the starter went to hell. Since I spent about $600 for the new flexplate install, I thought I could replace the cranker for a lot less. Well, $83 and two hours later, the starter works like a champ. I must say the top bolt on that is a bitch if you don't have the right tools, and I don't. But it starts and that is the main thing.
The power window motor on the driver side is shot; the latch for the hatch is gone--you need a screwdriver to open it (LMFAO); and it has a whole bunch of rust.
But since I have about $1600 in it, I'll keep it for now and hope that it gets me to and fro. Not quite sure I trust it for long distances, but it's okay for the four mile round trip to work and back!

198,000 85 BII 2.8l (before broken odometer 4 years ago LOL!!)
Still runs good, getting ready to duraspark it, and fix my leaky steering gearbox.
Goes through 1 quart of oil between changes. Leaks. Pulls to the right, muffler barely hanging on, computer half dead, and gets 8mpg...
But she's stylin blue crushed velvet diamond tuck interior with a thumpin kick butt stereo (tuned for classic rock of course) tube bumpers and side protection, and the classic "Redneck" stickers...LMAO
I love my BII, she's never, ever let me down, or left me stranded.

153,000+ now, but not on the engine itself. I flat towed mine across country with the rear driveline installed, tranny and t-case in neutral. Like I said, the odometer on mine isn't exactly accurate for the amount of actual driven mileage under power. I am starting to poke around and look for parts to start my buildup project now that I'm moved and settling in, but there are some other issues to address first -- but nothing that keeps 'er from starting up damn near every turn of the key

I think it is more than possible maybe not on a 2.9 but my step dad had a 90 Ranger with a 2.3 and it had over 500,000 it had seen every state in the country. The only thing we ever did to it was your basic repair. I'm not trying to aruge with fordxfour87 I'm just stating a personal experice and besides these trucks are built Ford tough.

Oh yeh, i can see a 2.3 going to 500,000 thou no problem. But a 2.9, without a rebuild? LOL!!!!
Mine has 120,000 miles. Giving it was used in the city for 15 yrs of its life, so im sure it has alot of idle hours on it. Besides taking that into consideration the engine seems pretty beat. I cant complain, for a 20 yr old motor, its in great condition. But im sure if it was a 2.3 it would be showing no problems.

That old truck was tough as nails drove her to the scrap yard when it was time for her to go someone clipped it in the back and it just wasn't worth fixing didn't but we didn't feel like it had cheated us out of anything at that point. What about a 2.9 lasting that long if it had a rebuild done to it the proper way?

300k and going strong
Replaced A4LD trans at 230K. Motor still runs STRONG, leaks a little though. If you did the maintenance and kept the water up, didn't overheat this engine, it would provide many, many miles of reliable driving. BTW, gets 20mpg same as it did when it had 17k on the motor.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/
Okay!
