Help dash lights quit working.

I have a 69 F350 that I have owned for about a month.
The dash lights worked when I got it. My son used it last
night and they quit working. I put a new fuse in tonight,
but they didn't work. I checked the connection to the
dash and it was good and tight. I decided to check the
fuse panel again and there is not power at either end of
fuse. Has anyone run into this before or know where I
should look for the problems.

Thanks,

The problem you are having is most likely your light switch. I know what your thinking, "the headlights still work" right? There is a resistor the is built into your switch that allows you to dim your dash lights, chances are your switch is 20-plus years old. I would think it's safe to say it's time to replace it. That would explain why you don't have power to either side of your fuse. Hope this helps.

Ever notice the first letters of FEarsome?

With to many to list...

Good advice John. ;-) Seriously, my dash lights work only at exactly one spot on the entire range of settings of the switch. HTH, George

I found the problem, it was the switch. The dash lights
will light up when you get the switch in just the right
position. I will have to pick one up when I get to town.

Have you ever noticed that it is something simple and we
always make it more difficult.

Thanks,

It wasn't made more difficult, was it? How would you know that there is a dim switch on a pickup truck? I was surprised myself about that, that is quite fancy! Who needs to dim their interior lights on a pickup? They must have had only that switch to bolt on. Glad we could help and the fix was so easy!

Cheers, George <--- keeping his one position dim

George They have had that feature as far back as I can remember, and still do.

If you clean the little pad, put some dielectric grease on the coil, and bend the pad arm so it makes better contact you might avoid that $10 replacement next time.

I swapped out a new switch from my 72 F100 since it won't
used until my son is old enough to drive. I don't know
where you get the switch for $10.00, but locally they are
$28.00 and online the cheapest is $18.00
