do you guys mount this filter or does it just stay there. also do I just toss the filter box. I like fleetfilters price alot better is this all I need for the filter? And for now can I run the filter without doing the wicked wheel or should I do the wheel first
The filter is pretty simple. You take apart the stock breather box. It's only a few clips on top and 4 bolts. Two bolts on top and two inside the box. The bottom half of the box can stay and the filter just sits in the space that's left.
I used a 4" peice of 4" exhaust pipe and a SS clamp I got from a big rig shop to connect the boot to the filter. Kwikkordead was able to slide the intake boot right over the filter flange.
While you're doing it, you could do the CCV mod too.

Goeffnj is right. You can run without the WW.
Just don't try and work the engine hard because you will be alarmed by the chuffa chuffa chuffa chuffa sound that the turbo will make with a very heave engine load.
Plus the WW sounds so cool compared to the stock wheel.
What is the ccv mod, I assume crankcase vent. What is the benefit and how do you do it
It removes the crankcase vent from the intake. The ccv fouls the intercooler and turbo with oil. I think guzzle92 and strokin_it both have some pics of it. I have to admit that I have all the stuff to do it but haven't had the chance. If you do a search (for "CCV mod")on the main 7.3 page, there are a few threads with really good directions.
I will be pulling my fifthwheel before ww Will the noise just scare the s#@t out of me and not hurt my truck or am I wrong

I took one trip with the open intake 6637 air filter and my wife was the one that was more worried than I was about it. It sounds like a rag flapping in a hurricane, kinda sorta.
The best description that I can give is a very rapid sound of a vacuum cleaner alternately stalling and grabbing some air and then stalling. Back and forth 2 or 3 times a second.
It doesn't do it any good, although I haven't heard of any cases where the turbo blew itself up because it was stalling. It just sounds horrid.
If you keep the ECU at Tow/Safe or stock and the RPM's around 2500 or more when pulling those big hills it will not stall. Also having the wastegate connected and operating will prevent it as well. I know that's not a popular option, but you don't want to have too much drive pressure on the exhaust side either. It will wreck the turbo bearings.
I don't know anyone that has blown a turbo due to surge - but I keep reading that it is very bad for the turbo. I would hate to find out that surge can destroy bearings or shatter the shaft (which is only about the size of a pencil). I can only imagine hard parts being sucked into my engine.
