wiring Expedition for trailer brakes

Where can I get instructions or a wiring diagram to help me hook up my 2000 expedition. It comes prewired for lights, but I need to tow a trailer with brakes.

Welcome to FTE, does your Expedition have a tow package? If so an adapter can be bought to simply hook the controller up. Plug is under dash usually close to behind radio. If not tow package, check out RVscorner.com or similar, they will direct you in some wiring diagrams.

I don't think I have a tow package. I've allready wired in the brake controler( it came with reasonably good instructions). It's in the back I'm having problems. It has a four prong outlet for lights only, but that terminating harness is plugged into a larger harness(under the car) with 6 wires. I think I need to connect to all 6 wires, and thats the connector that I need, or wiring diagram to make my own. BTW, I found rvcorner.com, not rvScorner.com.

You should be able unplug the 4-pin harness and plug in a new 7-pin harness. See your dealer for part number.
You may also need relays for the pdu under the hood. The advantage in using oem parts is that the battery charge circuit, if used, will open when the key is off.

You need this plug on the Expedition. It hooks directly into the 4 prong outlet, then you just have to run the wires into it from the brake controller.

Then use this diagram to wire it:

Sorry bout that, was going off memery here. Anyway, tekrsq has some good links to follow as well. I would highly recommend going to a 7 pin plug as that is what most everyone uses any more for the most part.

Can you remove the enire harness and take a picture of it, post it on here. If I am understanding you right, you have a 4 prong flat connector, when going back to the harness connector by spare tire you find an additional 6 wires that are tied into the harness with nothing connected to them. Am I right?
do they follow these colors
1-White
2-Blue
3-Brwn/White
4-Orange
5-Yellow
6-Green

Great info guys, I need time to digest it. I'll take a pic of my harness this weekend, if I don't solve the problem through all your input.
