Exclamation Transmission won't engage. Please Help

I just replaced the engine on my 95 Explorer 4x4.

With the old bad engine the car would move when put in gear. The engine was just smoked.

We replaced this with a rebuilt engine. We still need to get that running smoothly, but when I put the truck in gear it does not move. I have checked the fluid and even added some and that did not help.

It does not move in any gear. When you give it gas it just revs.

Any help on this would be great.

A couple of things to doublecheck:

Is the shifter cable attached properly to the trans? Will it shift by hand if you move the lever on the trans (please don't run yourself over ?

The vacuum connection going from the engine to the vacuum modulator on the trans.

Good luck.

I had someone watch when I was moving the column shifter. It did move fine, so I assume that it is going into gear.

As far as the vacuum connection from the engine to the trans, how do I locate that to check it ?

I only remeber two things going to the trans. The wire harness and the linkage for the shifter.

Thanks in advance.
