Where is the fuel pump relay and the electronic engine control power relay located on a 1991 ford F-150 pickup truck. I replaced the parking brake cables and the EGR valve.
I had the back of the truck jacked up higher than the front for two weeks to finish the job. Now engine will not start. But when I spray starting ether into the air filter opening, the engine will turn over and run a little while. Is replacing the two above mentioned relays a good place to start?
Welcome to FTE. I have taken the liberty of moving your request to the F-series Forum that most closely relates to your question.
The symptoms you described would pose the question, "Did you inadvertently trip the inertia switch on the fuel pump circuit?" You can find the switch under the dashboard if memory serves up behind the emergency brake pedal assembly. I could be wrong there. It has a red button atop it and if the button is UP the switch has been tripped. I would personally check this first and follw it up with a quick pull of the codes from the computer if the problem isn't obvious.
dear greystreak: The inertia switch is as you said, behind the break peddle, but has not been switched, the computer codes say "Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Fault". There does not appear to be a plastic box where all the relays are located in one place like in later model trucks, where is the fuel pump relay anyway? And how about the EEC relay? I will not mess with them yet , but would like to know where they are at. I will put a new fuel filter in tomorrow morning, incase sludge slid to the front of the tank when I had the rear end elevated higher than the front for two weeks. Then I will put my ear to the gas tank while someone else turns on the key to see if the fuel pump goes on. If it goes on then I know the pump works, but COULD be blocked with sludge. Do you think I should drop the tank then, it is the original tank from 1991 and has many rust spots on the outside. But I could sand blast the tank once it is off and paint with rustoleum paint. But, is it a better idea to replace it with a plastic tank if I have to drop the tank to clean it out? Mayby I should even put a new fuel pump in if I have to drop the tank. I thought I may have initiated the original problem when I pulled the broken parking brake cables from under the truck, but I looked around and did not see anything wrong as far as I know. I appreciate your opinion in this matter. Thank you,Rich
