Replace 9 inch with a Dana 60 on 2wd F100? U-joint ?
I have replaced the front and rear suspension in my '67 F100. The front I-Beams from a '78 F250 bolted right up without a problem. I figured the back would be easier.
First the '72 F250 springs are longer and have an extra lever on the rear spring mount instead of a simple shackle. So I am back to my F100 springs.
Now that I have my old F100 springs (overload springs waiting to be decided upon) back on the truck I put a Dana 60 full floater under the springs. I picked up a shorter driveshaft at the junk yard when I picked up the axle. (About 2" shorter was needed). My problem is the new U-Joints I purchased don't fit. They fit in my old driveshaft and new driveshaft but they are too narrow for the Dana 60. ie. the diameter of the caps are correct but the caps sit about 1/4" in from the ridge on the edge of the yoke on the Dana 60. I put a couple of washers as spacers on the outside of the caps between the yoke and the u-bolt for test driving but this not a permanent solution.
Are there U-joints with one leg of the + longer than the other leg? Or am I going to have to cut off the end of the driveshaft and weld a new one on?
The drive shaft I picked up at the junkyard came out of a 72 F250 with a Dana 60 but not the same truck I got my full floater Dana 60 from. The shaft is the perfect length though.
