06 brakes verses 04 brakes

I know there are a few ford mechanics who follow this board so I thought I'd ask this question here. Are the brake systems on a 06 4x4 screw lariat the same as the brake systems on the 04's?

I've gone through hell on the 04's and just want to know if it will reoccur (vibration when braking) on the new 06's?

Something I have noticed, I have about 900 miles om my 06 screw. The rotors on the front seem to have slight grooves/rings forming already, were as the rear rotors seem to be perfect with out these grooves/rings forming.

Any ideas form you ford guys?

What problems have you had? I have an 04 SCREW lariate with about 32,000 miles and have not had one single problem with the brakes. No warping, no grinding nothing.

I had to have them replace the rotors on my 04 before the 10k mark. I only have about 4k on the 06 now, but no brake issues as of yet. The problem with the 04 rotors was that they were trying to save $, and didnt make them thick enough, so they readily warped. No indications of this on my 06 yet.

what about 05s? I really have a hard time stopping...I mean that sounds drastic and exagerated, but I have ran a couple of close red lights because I know that with these BFG tires, I can't stop. Even when I had stock tires, stopping was an issue....Perhaps a Powerslot rotor and better pads will do the trick??? But factory brakes are def hell for me. Squaks after a full day of driving too!

05 brakes

My 05 brakes stunk. I had to replace a dragging rear caliper. I bleed the brakes, all 4 calipers not just the new one and got air out of all of them. Big improvemnet in braking. Maybe ford is not getting all the air out.

29,600 miles on my 04, not one brake problem, still on the original pads and rotors. To say all the 04 had rotor problems is incorrect. The only 04 that had rotor problems were the early builds. The later builds had the newer rotors on them of which these newer rotors were available for the early 04 models if they exhibited problems.

Accurate,

Interesting find. I have thought my 05 brakes are spongy at times and now suspect I might have air in the lines? Seems like the first press on the brakes is a little soft, then if I release, the press again, they seem to firm up. Didn't even think of air in the lines....I only have 3k on the truck....

is300wrx,

You are experiencing soft brakes too? I'll have to search other threads to see what has been written so far. When I drive the wifes Blazer and I apply moderate pressure on the brake pedal, I just about throw myself into the windshield.

I have literally ran red lights because the brakes are so soft...I wasnt carrying my full payload or anything...going 40mph, yellow light, brakes..brake... f it, cant stop. Might just upgrade to Powerslots and Brembo fluid with Hawk pads...

Yes I Too Had A 04 Fx4 Scab And Brakes Sucked, And Thats Why Traded It In Have A 06 Screw Xlt Now Has 900 Mile On It And I Have So Moch More Dust In Front Than My 04 And Rotors In Front Only Look Like They Have 9,000 Miles On Them Already Have Grooves In Front Rotors And Rear Looks Brand New As Should Since Only Made First Payment Engine Sounds Better In The 06 Than The 04 Did Had Loud Knock In 04 Was Told Injectors, Hope This One Does Not Do That Also.. Will Look Forward To More Posts On This Subject... Since The Brakes Should Not Look And Feel Like That Already.. But Fords Are Known For Bad Front Brakes.. Work For A Company That Has A Fleet Of E-350 Vans And We Go Thru Brakes & Rotors Every 10,000 Miles..

The tsb for brake vibration was for vins partway through 2005, they replaced the front calipers and rotors on mine, i assume with whatever the 06s are getting, there's no way they'd still be installing the defective ones.

My 04 has great brakes. I think that they are too touchy sometimes. The only real gripe I have is the brake dust! Every 2 days I need to clean the wheels. I hate dirty wheels. Other than the dust these brakes work great.... you wanna talk about crappy brakes..... drive a Dodge! My wife and I just traded in an 02 Durango R/T. It had the worst brakes on a vehicle that I have ever had! I had to have everything on it replaced at 20,000 miles. Calipers, rotors, lines, pads, drums, and shoes!
