It can help, but over time it will eat your fuel lines. Your best bet for good gas mileage is driving conservatively.

I would just make sure your oil change and air filter change is up to date and drive with the cruise on. I don't think I would mess with the acetone.

added 1-2 ounces per 10 gallons on trip to LA got 15.6 MPG at 70 MPH with a 4.6
trip back NO acetone and got 14.5 so worth maybe 1.0 MPG

Ever see acetone react with plastic? I have. Don't run it through your fuel system. Don't forget that the fuel tank itself is made of pla$tic.

seems like its too risky just to gain a mile to the gallon. good stuff though thanks for the feedback.

Some one drags this stupid idea up every couple of months.

Please use the SEARCH feature.

Dang, kinda harsh there project! He was just asking for an opinion on a topic, not a lecture on how to use this forum. You may think the idea is stupid, but you almost imply that him bringing it up is stupid... It's a pretty hot topic over on the F-150 forum, are those guys just dumber than us?

What about the 50 other topics that come up every other day? Like, excessive brakes dust, door codes, door ajar lights, tire opinions, DTC code deciphering, etc, etc, etc...
This is not just an encyclopdia site, it's a discussion forum... what kind of new/current discussion can you get out of "Please use the SEARCH feature"?

To take it one step further, nearly every imaginable topic has been discussed (some ad nauseam) in the eight or so years FTE website has been going, hence should the site cease to exist just because a topic has already been covered? While the search feature is very helpful, it is no substitute for continued dialogue.

great points onespeed/buzzard

triton54 - if you're really interested in acetone, i'd suggest an internet search, you'll find a lot of info/tests/testimonials...etc

I had tried this for a couple of months and i did find a gain in my MPG but it was very minor (like 1 MPG). Not to mention It was a hastle to have to measure it out each time i went to the pump. You can easily get that kind of savings by not accelerating hard, coasting a little more and using the cruise control.
However if you still want to try it then feel free. I did not damage my system and in all the research i did i couldnt find a single post on the internet from someone complaining about a repair bill from trying it.
