Hi, I have a 1964 330 horse 390 "maurauder" out of a 64 mercury with merc-o-matic trans.
I am going to drop the 390 in my effie.

1)How difficult will it be to drop the auto trans in?

2)do i need to upgrade to power steering and brakes?

3)is 1967 considered a collectible year?

4)will my effie be more collectible with new process 435 4 speed with 390 upgrade?

the effie has two driveshafts and is very solid in front and my daily driver.

It has granny low *Please Note All Manual transmissions have Low gear so i drive 'er like a three speed starting in second.

5)Will a beefy 390 wear the 4 speed out faster??

6)If i keep the 4 gear should i have a single driveshaft?

7)is 67 the last year for the tried and true 352??

8)is a fe big block 4speed f100 uncommon?

I have only found mine but that dont mean squat.
i love my truck and only want to make her sweet and a daily driver. i will pay gas gladly, but want to get all the efficiency i can without cuttin corners.

Your quality knowledge is very much appreciated.

Hi Art.

Couple of things - first, typing in all caps is considered SHOUTING, and it's hard to read, please type in lower case. Second, as I understand it, "effie" is term generally reserved for '53 through '56 Ford trucks.

There are lots of threads already here about converting to power steering and brakes, as well as switching over to an automatic transmission. Browse the threads - also check out the tech articles (link is on the right hand side of the screen).

Is the '67 collectible? Well, depends on who you talk to. You have posted on a forum dedicated to Ford trucks, and more specifically '67 through '72 models. Everybody here likes these trucks. In the marketplace, however, the effies (53 - 56) tend to generate more in terms of price and interest and the 61 - 66 model also has a strong following, but the 67 - 72 models seem to be gaining popularity. Collectors tend to pay more money for vehicles in original condition, they love it when the numbers match; so I would say that any mods you make to the vehicle will hurt it's collectibility. It might not hurt it's overall value, but to a collector, it won't be worth as much.

Yes, 1967 was the last year for the 352. In 68 the 360 and 390 were offered in the F100. The tranny should handle the 390 just fine. Starting in second is correct, "granny" gear is for starting under a heavy load. I have seen lots of FE's with 4 speeds, it's not that uncommon. I don't know about the driveshaft question, but I'm sure someone here can help you.

Welcome to FTE.

Art! Welcome to FTE. Your sentence says it all, "i love my truck and only want to make her sweet and a daily driver. i will pay gas gladly, but want to get all the efficiency i can without cuttin corners." Excellent! This is exactly the way I and most here feel! The others have answered your questions so post some more and we'll try to help! Once again Welcome to FTE!

Hi Art and welcome to

One problem I see is that '64 390 only has two motor mount bosses per side, '65 and later have four bosses per side. The problem is our trucks use the two newer bosses that were added in '65. You will have to run some type of adapter plate that catches the old bosses and bolts where the new bosses would be. It's been done I've heard but have no details, sorry.

Anyway, welcome to the site!

As far I know the 352 was discontinued and replaced with the 360/390 in 68.
