Brake booster

I read the tech article about installing disc brakes on a 67 f250. However, I didn't see anything about whether or not I can install a power brake booster. What year of booster whould be used? I would assume the same one off of the donor truck.......and will it be compatible with my original rear drums?? Thanks

Brake booster

Buy a donor truck and swap all of the parts over to your truck including the booster.

Brake booster

Use the Ford 9 inch booster, dual chamber MC with 1 inch spool. Get a Ford step bracket (between the booster and firewall), shorten the pedal to booster bar and find a wider power brake pedal. 100 % Ford parts for this job, all available in the junk yard. The brake pedal ratio is different from non power brakes and power brakes. The firewall boot is available from Mustang suppliers. You will have more questions so post back. I'd gather all the parts before starting this project. Consider adding power steering at the same time. Getting a donor is a really good idea.

Brake booster

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-13-03 AT 04:42 PM (EST)]I recently did the whole discs, I-Beams, powersteering, and booster upgrade to my 67 F100. I chose 1 ton I-beams from a 78 and matched them with a Dana 60 in the back. The stopping power is fantastic but I appreciate the power steering the most.

When I did my conversion my front brakes would not release after being applied. I had to put a couple of washers between the booster and the firewall. It worked great.

The only other problem I had was when I put the 78 power brake pedal in the brake switch is different. (This was actually due to the shape of the push rod on the booster). I had to do a minor amount of engineering to get this to work.

Brake booster

In the booster, between it and the MC is a rod. That funny looking nut turns for adjusting the brake release. If you want to get rid of the washers turn this nut in about 4 turns.

That would be great! I should have come here first before I put the washers in. Many thanks!

Brake booster

For a starting point, that rod should stick out of the booster just shy of 1 inch.
