I have located a 57 Ranchero for an I'm not so sure price. It has a 302/C4 and pretty nice paint and chrome. The interior is ''intact'' but has a nasty press pleat diamond tufted material (some kind of vinyl) grille and lights etc are ok the underside is a toxic waste site of grease dirt etc. Is $6500 over the top for this piece? I have no idea what it's really ''worth'' although 65 for a running daily driver seems reasonable. Any idea what top dollar would be on this? I may drive to Mesa this weekend to ck it out. Thanks
Years ago I picked up a 59 Ranchero for free, it had been wrecked in the right front but I had a complete 59 Galaxie 500 that I used for parts. I ended up installing all of the fancy Galaxy trim inside and out on the Ranchero including the "Town and Country" radio which had a primitive "seek" function. It was pretty snazzy for an AM radio.
I drove it for several years before having major engine problems.....then I had a houseful of young kids that needed to eat and ended up selling it for $400 and a case of beer.
I miss that car and wish I would have kept it (heck, don't we say that about all of them?)
The 57 is a great body style. They look like they are going fast even when they are standing still. I'm not sure what is worth but I think the price sounds fair. I know that there is a guy in my town trying to sell a fixed up custom 59 Ranchero for a little of 20K (good luck!!!)
Did you ask the question in the Ranchero board? those guys might have a better feel on the market.
I'd say if you like it and can afford it, buy it. You can always turn it later, but if you let it get away......Lets say most of my regrets are for things I didn't do.
Hope The Beer was at least Cold. Sounds like a deal, But price scares me a little, Most that I have seen that have been decent sell fo at least 4 k more. and no beer
Just a word of advise, check the cross beam tube under the engine that joins the frame together. These tubes like to rust out, even in dry climates they're a great water trap, which can be a real head ache. The one nice thing about it being an oily mess underneath is the oil might have helped preserve this part but the dirt could have also trapped a lot of moisture. Just a thought.
Other than that, I really like the design of the '57. I like it better than any of the older Fords other than the '42-48s. The '58, even thought basically the same car, just do it for me. I don't like the double head lights and tail lights.
That's a good deal, if everything is there. The cosmetic stuff is easy to replace. Parts are tough to come by. I paid more than that for my 56 and it was in sad shape except for the body.
The same guy has a bone stock '58 Ranchero, a 67 big block Ranchero (Fairlane) and a '48 Fiat Topolino. The really sad thing is that the he is in final stages of cancer and he is trying to find good homes for his toys while he can. Count your blessings guys, I'm trying to.
