Time for clutch replacement?
Have a '97 F150 4x4 with about 129k / 4.6l w/mazda trans
Recently I've noticed the clutch will not engage until literally the last 1/2 inch of pedal travel. The clutch will stall the truck in 4th like the manual tells ya, and doen not slip. It is my belief that the disk has worn down, but have yet to confirm this. I'm experienced with manual trans with non-hydraulic clutches, so this is a new one on me. Should I be looking into the hydraulic system for just possible bleeding or does 129k on the original clutch sound about right for a time change?
I am looking into the centerforce dual friction setup, but would like someone's opinion on them. I've read about chattering issues with this clutch and with the weak link (mazda trans, already broken once / reverse idler gear) am beginning to think that it might be to much for this trans.
Centerforce I maybe the way to go. I do mostly daily driving with the truck, but it does get he occasional 7,000# trailer behind it.
Any experience with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Seth
