Today is a BIG day! Our youngest is 18 yrs old today. My wife and I are younger than most empty nesters at 40 and 41. Ya, we started young - planned this whole thing out back in 84. Had one girl in '86 and the other in '88, both born in Hawaii. We added a couple of older kids along the way so they moved on some years ago.
They're all doing well, or very well - we couldn't be happier. Now our 18 year old is talking about moving out and even getting married soon. No grandkids in the works for a few years, but I could easily be grandpa at 45 or so.
The house is very quiet now, but the 1000 watt surround system easily compensates for that. It's very different, but I think we'll both adjust nicely to the changes. The bills go down, the house stays cleaner, milk comes in 1/2 gallons now and actually goes bad eventually, unheard of for the past 20 years.
This was a good plan. I don't even know that 20 year old that came with it so long ago but if I could, I'd want to talk to him, tell him "thanks man, you did me a solid. You should tell more people about this great idea!".
(I think I pulled a muscle patting myself on the back just now...shake it off)
One last thing: Mahalo to all you taxpayers for for the free Kama'aina's!
