10 bucks says it takes the mods less than 10 minutes to move this to the Ranger forum. Welcome to FTE, they have a board just for Ford Rangers!
What transmission, auto or manual? What do you mean by driving? Down the road or do you have to go a ways and let it warm up first? Is it a sudden just dead stall or does it struggle a bit then die? I'd suspect the idle air control valve.
Welcome to FordTrucks.com! We are the Internet's Premiere Resource for all things Ford Truck and SUV related!
We are happy to have you! There is a ton of great info on this site. But, before you go snooping around there are a few things you need to do first.
1) Want to meet or talk to other members in your area? There are Provincial, State and International Chapters located near the bottom of the main forum page.
2) Before you post a thread asking a question be especially aware of where (what forum) to place it in. FTE is HUGE! Make sure you read the Read First: at the top of the forum before you go posting.
Thread moved to Ranger forum.
3) And finally you should review the Guidelines. They will kind of give you an idea of what is and isn't allowed on this site ("The Rules").
And that is it. I hope you enjoy the FTE "Experience"! This is a great place and we have lots of fun while exchanging valuable info. If you have any questions or problems do NOT hesitate to contact me. Just click my username then send me an email.
You don't mention where you live, but this is a perfect time of the year for people living in cooler parts of the country to have water in their gas. Condensation and thus water in the gas is even more apt to occur when the tank is not kept full. On this note, I'd run a bottle of fuel system dryer such as Heat through it.
With no more information than we have at this point, I'd agree with PW01, it could be the IAC.
Go to the "Technical Info" thread, Ken has located atop this forums main page & scroll down to & click on 4.0L IAC, there you will find a picture of one, that Rockledge has posted, along with some common things that go along with one thats acting up & see if you think any of the symptoms fit.
Let us know how it goes, or if you can come up with some more clues, so we can make a better guess.
Yeah with struggling I either suspect the IAC (cheap and easy to replace if it is the problem) or a fuel delivery problem of some sort. Being it runs fine driving then dies at idle, I tend to suspect an IAC problem.
