Hello, anyone on this board have problems with the exhaust heatshields rattling? I have been to the dealer four times. First time they replaced one of the heatshields and the other times they said there was debri in the heat shield. If i stop at a light and roll the window down thats all i hear is a loud rattling coming from the exhaust..can i go under there and remove the shield?

Get your self a hose clamp that will fit around the pipe and the shield, and tighten it up.

Some members here have removed the shield and they have no problems. I removed mine after re-welding it several times. This was about 60K miles ago and no problems yet.

 

I have the same problem with mine. When the engine reaches operating temperature, all you hear are the heat shields cracking and popping. It has done it since I brought it home. My 5 year old daughter even noticed it. Dealer has tried hose clamps with no success. I dont recall my 01 having all the heatshields that the 05 5.4 has, although the exhaust is totally different. If anyone has a solution, I would be interested.

 

I think I am going to change mine. I hate that it does this. Mine is an 06 with 2500 minles and has done it from day 1.

 

Hello, I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. There is nothing loose under there to tighten with a hose clamp. When it reaches temp. it makes a rattling and crackling noise and its done it since day one. $38,000 and the exhaust rattles what the f*****.. If anyone else has any ideas I would love to here them.

Cut it off and be done with it. Won't cause no more trouble for you then.

 

Does anyone know why the heat shields are even on there?

 

I've got the same thing on a 1 month old '06. Did it from day one like all the others. It bugs me enough that as soon as summer comes the whole exhaust is getting swapped out. There's also a drone in the cab at 80mph. Banks seems to have the answer to these problems.
