1) direct factory invoice at one local dealership
2) $1 over factory invoice and no dealer prep fees at another local dealership
3) X-plan pricing, but that's about 1000 miles away. Would involve flying there and driving the new truck back
I haven't compared actual prices, but which of the above is a better deal? By the way, looking at a new F-250 6.0L crewcab 4x4 XLT or Lariat

In theory, it all sounds like the same kind of deal. First off, there shouldn't be any dealer prep fees on a new truck- Ford pays the dealer to do that. Factory invoice should be the same, but I do see you're located in Florida. That means dealer doc fees can vary wildly- we've seen some doozies on this board. X-Plan will be within $100 of invoice, so that alone shouldn't generate a trip to get the new truck. Check on those doc fees, though, and any additional charges a dealer might throw at you.
Beings that I just found out that my company participates in Ford's Partnership program, I was doing a bunch of reading on the X-Plan tonight. In a nutshell, the Partnership website states that X-Plan pricing is invoice minus 0.4% of invoice.
I hit www.cars.com and just priced a generic, no options Lariat CC 4x4 w6.0L--MSRP shows $43,655 with an invoice of $38,661. The X-Plan pricing would get you a $154.64 price reduction for a purchase price of $38,506.36 for this example.
Everything else involved in the sale--like the trade-in, dealer-added options (bed liner, accessories, etc.), extended warranty, and service plan--are calculated seperately.
On a side note, if you go with the X-Plan, you will need to hit the Partnership website, fill out a form to request a PIN, take that PIN number into the dealership with you, and identify yourself as an X-Plan member upfront. The website also states that you need some kind of proof of identity/employment like a recent pay stub or work ID (business card does not count).
