I have info off a friends tag thats all painted up, and the only thing we got is the numbers, not what they mean..can someone help me out with this? For a 70-71 F250, tag reads a follows:

dana 60 3.73 ratio, and I belive that is a 351W in your vin#, I would need to know codes from your driver door jamb

hope this helps, its kinda tricky with all the options, but the tranny and paint are the only ones not clear to me

actually, I was leaning toward jade then I new I must be far off , I have only seen one jade /chartreuse f series!!!
My books are a little difficult to follow in the paint/body code section

Actually the color is Black ( tis tag is off a 70 f250, the owner bought it new, he's like 80 something ( really neat guy) the truck is beautiful...has 32K orig miles)..my truck is a 71 with 60k but no door tag so I'm trying to figure out the #'s so I can have one made for me (these two trucks are Identical, 'cept his has the Ranger package, and mine was repainted red (therefore no tag!)I plan on using his #'s minus the VIN for the new plate...

I thought the 6100=GVW 131=hp 4100=@rpm: I need to know what the L, 4 and the F are: the rest I know.. eng is 360 w/ 4sp thansk for the efforts...C

 

Lots of hints it is black....just that door or jamb was repainted...not the whole truck thanks Chris

H70387- sequential unit number
131- wheel base
A- color code

 

My book shows an A code as black. Could the door have been replaced in the past? Check the VIN stamped on the frame to see if they match.

 

As I read it, L = Interior trim scheme (parchment)
4 = Seat (vinyl)
F = Body Code
Also, the serial number for 1971 used prefixes J-M.
