I have a 2001 f-350 w/ 7.3 liter diesel, and a 6 speed manual tranny. I had to have the clutch replaced, along with the pilot bearing and input shaft, etc, as everthing blew up on me. That was with 56,000 miles, so it was covered under warranty. Now with just over 100,000 miles, the clutch is starting to slip under hard acceleration or heavy loads. Anyone no of a good aftermarket clutch/flywheel/input bearing? I dont want to have to put a new clutch in every 40-50,000 miles. Also, is it worth paying the dealer $800-$1000 in labor to install it, or is it a pretty straight forward procees? I've probably put in 5 or 6 clutches over the years, but all have been on older and smaller cars.

Welcome to FTE, the best place to learn about your truck.
Doing the clutch on the six speed is very easy, straight forward, etc.
It's a top loader so the shift handle comes out from the top underneath the boot. Unbolt the flange and out it comes. No way you can screw it up, just a ball and socket affair underneath. Everything else is nuts and bolts.
Just don't try it without a jack. It's huge and heavy.
The two most popular clutch upgrades are LuK and Southbend. I went with the Luk and the cost was $545.00 + shipping I believe. Had a clutch shop put it in for $425 if I remember right. I'm happy with it. Got about 50k on it so far and no problems. Which ever one you go with remember to get the kevlar pilot bushing. Also, not sure if the clutch fork problem was a problem for the 01s but worth checking into. Search the forums for more info if need it. And as Kwik said, welcome to FTE. By the way, if you include your location in your profile members can perhaps steer you to good shops etc.
Thanks kmans777, I appreciate the response. I did find a ceramic clutch avaliable, that is supposedly similar to what they put in semi's, but its $1100 (and thats cheap compared to the $1600 and $1700 quotes i got from other places). I also was able to find a shop that would install it for $450. (definitely not worth my time and hassle to do it myself for that price). I will certainely check into the luk clutch, and see if it is a ceramic as well before I spend the $$$$$ on the other one. Thanks again
