Well after several months, I finally put new tires on my truck. I looked at several brands, all in the economy range, but ended up putting on BF Goodrich All Terrian T/A's. I got them at Costco for 450.00 installed, I waited 1 week too long or the price would have been 380.00 (price increase at the beginning of the month).
Anyway, the truck rides so much better, and wet payment traction seems better also. Last week I had about 800 lbs of drywall in the back, and it didn't feel any different. With my old tires the back end felt like it was wiggling a bit when I would load it down with that much weight.
I opted for 31x10.50 instead of 235/75's. They look good on the truck, even though the front end looks like it could be lifted a little bit. Thought about cranking the Torision bars, but I don't want it ride rough, or screw up the front end.
You can probably...I say probably crank the torsion bars a little bit, I stress a LITTLE BIT, and still keep ot within' spec so to speak...maybe pick up an inch or inch and a half at most. Too much will make it ride bad, I won't argue with you on that, but a little does not affect the ride drastically. I have one suggion for you to try to further improve the "look" of your truck so to speak, remove your mud flaps and take a look at your truck, especially from the rear, take a couple of pics before and after. Real easy to do, your tires are still inside the fender wells so it's not like you will be peppering your truck with road debris. It will give your truck the appearance of being bigger while it's actually not. Anyway it's easy to try and put back on if you don't like it. The new tires really improved the look of your truck, I just checked out the pix -
I went with black wall on purpose, the white letters get scuffed up too quickly. Maybe I shouldn't try and get so close to the curb. I will try removing the mud flaps and see how it looks.
I'm thinking of getting the front end aligned, at that time I will see about getting an 1" of lift from the torision bars.
Like I said I'm very happy with the tires, they look and ride great. There is an increase in road noise, but that is only noticable at speeds below 25mph. The only bad thing about the whole experience is paying $72.00 more than I would have had to. I discovered that on SuperBowl Sunday, I was more bummed about that than the Seahawks losing.
Check out the price on the same size Mud TA's and it will make you feel much better about what you paid....just got a new set a few months ago, all I can say is OUCH!!!!
As far as the mud flaps go, make sure you look at your truck from the rear about two or three car lengths back.....maybe it's just me, but I think you might like the change.
