400,000 Miles and counting
I recently rolled 400k on my 97 Expy 2x4 w/tow pkg, 5.4 motor is still strong, no smoke, no problems and still hauling my tools.
My only motor problem was a plug blow out on #1, used seat fix it helicoil kit and all is good. Didn't have to pull the head either.
I had to redo the tranny at 342k when the torque converter puked into the tranny works.
I still get 19-20 hwy and 14-16 city (depending on conditions)
I use Mobil1 5/30 w/M1-210 filters, I go 10k between changes, 5k for filter (plus a quart to top off). I do a motor flush every 100k.
K&N air filter...on my second one, the first lasted 350k.
My main nemises has been cops, about every 50k I seem to need a new one now...but I still have 4 original.
...other than that, the only thing left to say is....These have been 400,000 Ford Tough miles..... come on 1/2 mill.!!

WOW, Congrats....That is great!!! Jee at 103K my 99EB is just getting broken in. Oil is the life blood of the engine.
I like the idea on the motor flush. Other than standard preventitive maintenance, brakes, oil changes etc. I've replaced two batteries, one compass, and some vacuum lines. I need another 4 years with her to get the kids through college.

That is awesome. My wife has a '99 Expy that just turned over 100,000 miles and I couldn't be happier with it. It is a strong performer and I have no doubt that 300,000 miles is an attainable. I use Motorcraft 5W20 changed every 5,000 miles with Motorcraft filters. Have not flushed the motor yet but that's coming up soon.

This is incredible news...... especially with the transmission holding up so well...
i would guess that you do a tremendous number of highway miles...
our Ford Expedition 1998 has been virtually trouble free with 146k miles... although i do have a turn signal issue now that i am addressing..
Congratulations on your 400k... that is by far the highest number i have seen on an Expy.
What do you flush the motor with?

Thanks all...
....I flush with Gunk btw...
....what I noticed on the tranny were high revs on shifts from 1st to 2nd and took it to my tranny guy and he said it was time to check the tranny anyway. I am relgious about changing tranny fluid, without good fluid, you may as well put vinegar in it as far as I'm concerned. Anyway we dropped the pan and it had lotsa poccupines on the mag pickup. I knew it wouldn't be long, so I said rebuild it. He showed me the parts and said they were in fine shape, what happened was the torque converter up and gutted itself. But, in the meantime it deposited lot of minny needles in the works.
I hope ya'll get the same or better results as I did.....

I have just recently replaced my lower ball joints on both sides (uppers were fine), shocks all around, i had to repack my constant velocity joint on the drive shaft(dealer item and they were gonna charge me 200 for the part and it just needed to be regreased), and new front brake lines on both sides. I fixed all of this at about 270,000 when I was getting ready to go down to fl for christmas. other than the above, there has never been any major mechanical problems with the expy.

Thanks.... I did shocks between 125 and 138k.
Rubber is fine so far....but I did have to get my frist front end alignmnet recently.
I really have not had any mechanical issues. I did replace the ICV once, but really it just needed to be cleaned. Anyway, I guess I now have a spare ICV.
I do think I will probably replace belts and hoses this summer. 8 years is long enough for those items.

170K and counting
I've put a hard 170,000 miles on my 2000 expedition. Mostly highway miles, but there's been a lot of 400lb boat towing (3 times a week spring, summer & fall), and some off-road. I've had to replace the following:
3 sets of brakes
3 sets of tires
rebuild transmission @70k miles
4wd relay
tie rods (one broke recently - replaced both)
ball joints - upper & lower
1 wheel hub assembly
4wd engage motor
It's running great now (knock on wood!), but I'm afraid if anything else major goes in the near future, I'll be considering replacing it. I have an out-west trip coming with the family this summer where we'll be towing the boat.
It is encouraging to hear that they can last a long time.
