I have the same problem, I took the cover off the seat belt and blew it out with my compressor. lots of dust came out , now they seem to work a little better but not like when they were new.

I have the same problem. The driver's side belt only retracts half way and if I don't thread it back all the way the buckle ends up being closed in the door - ouch!

Hey, I almost failed my states vehicle inspection because of that. They guy who did the test said he would let it go but he really should not have. It does that same thing as described. It would retract with help only.

I do not think it is legal to put in a "pre-owned" retractor. New only.

OBTW...mine does the same thing. Plus, the seat belt clip is now facing the wrong way. IMHO...these SD or American seat belts are not worth a crap. My Honda seat belts do not twist and retract nicely. Humm...

Actually I believe there is a law that does not allow using "used" belts. I was looking for my '76 F150 390FE 4x4 some time back...and remember reading about it. But that was from the website (or source) from where I was going to purchase. I may be wrong...

If anyone else knows more...PLEASE chime in...

---ok more clarification--in maryland, used seat belts can be sold and re-used,only federal emission parts ie: cat convertor can not be re-used
