I've pulled the codes and got all of them straight except this one-626 for the Coast Clutch Solenoid. None of the books I have mention this thing anywhere and I have no idea what or where it is. I have a stock 93 with the 351w/e4od.
Most books won't get into the 600 series codes because they are E4OD related fault codes. You will need a transmission book or someone who knows what's up with that particular code. Often the E4OD codes will come up as a result of something amiss somewhere else and when a shift solenoid or something in there does its thing at what the EEC computer thinks is the "wrong time" the code will trigger. If it keeps re-occurring even after clearing all of the stored codes and its the ONLY one coming back, then you might want to look into having the tranny looked at.
I have no idea how what I'm talking about with tranny related stuff but I did stay at Holiday Inn Express lastnight so i'll offer my help. Seriously though, I do have a rather good service manual on CD ROM that can diagnose this problem. I looked at some of the branch offs from step one and they go all over the place so it's too much to post all at once. If your willing to follow the routines and report back with your findings then I'd be willing to give you the next step in the routine in solving this problem.
Here's step 1... Let me know your results and i'll post up either TC2 or QC1
Transmission Solenoids
DTCs 621, 622, 626, and 629 indicate solenoid did not change state when requested by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Possible causes:
-- Damaged solenoid/assembly.
-- Open or shorted harness (internal/external).
-- Damaged PCM.
NOTE:
Do not use a STAR Tester for this step. Use a VOM or DVOM.
l VOM/DVOM on 20 volt scale.
l Connect negative test lead to STO circuit at Data Link Connector (DLC) and meter positive test lead to B+.
l Jumper STI circuit to SIG RTN at the DLC.
l Perform Key On Engine Off Self-Test until Continuous Memory DTC have been displayed.
l VOM/DVOM will indicate less than 1.0 volt when test is complete.
l Depress and release throttle.
l Does voltage increase?
Yes
REMAIN in Output State DTM. GO to «TC2».
No
DEPRESS throttle to WOT and RELEASE. If STO voltage does not go high, PERFORM Pinpoint Test Step«QC1». LEAVE equipment hooked up.
