everyone has their own opinion but I know my ranger and it takes skill to tow a lot of weight with these little trucks.

Kind of an old thread, but welcome. And yes you can tow with these older rangers but they are not rated to tow a lot, but it can be done.

This old ranger is a little warlord... I'm in the masonry business. It hauls the mortar mixer no problem.. alot of guys buy a brand new Ford and take it to the job site and cry when it gets scratched.

I roasted the transmission in my '91 Ranger v6 4.0L pulling my Polaris Ranger XP (1400 lbs) on a single axle trailer with a good load of hunting gear to the mountains here in Colorado. Around town it did fine. No way I would ever do that again.

I guess you guys must live away from the Rust belt...

around here .. after 6-8 years .. the perch for the rear springs Rust to nothing. and the springs poke thru the bed....
fixable yes, weld a plate to frame and get new perches.

Going even further off topic...

The rearmost leaf spring bracket on my '91 was attached to the frame with rivets. I drilled out the rivets and put on new brackets, flipped upside down. The OEM leaf springs were a bit lopsided and were replaced with Deaver leaf springs. I gained a ton of travel while keeping the vehicle at the same level.

I had an 84Ranger, 2.3 5speed. I was renting a little house and took a lowboy of hay to it to insulate the foundation. I don't know know how much weight was on there....but I do know I nearly lost it because it wasn't loaded evenly, as in too much weight on the front, which took most of the weight off the steer tires. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Also hauled a golf cart in it once.
