Hi everybody, I have a early 99 auto (6/98) with an automatic. A friend of mine has an 01 all stock and it seems like his pulls just as hard as mine. Is there that big of a difference in the two years? Thanks
I forgot to add that my truck has a superchips tuner, 4 inch exhaust, and kwik filter. Has anybody put a newer ecm in there early 99? I talked to Jody Tipton today and he said to use the newer one with the DPC-422 number on it. Just curious if anybody has tried this. I'm thinking about selling the superchip and getting a DP tuner. Thanks
Yes, we both trailered sleds back from wyoming last weekend. His seemed to perform just as well as mine. I also noticed that I don't get much for black smoke when I stomp on it hard. I found a used computer out of a 2000 that I will be getting tomorrow. I will pull my tuner out of the old one and put it in the new one and see what happens.
a small list of items that differ is that the early 99 has smaller intake plenums, different airbox and intake, and the injectors are somewhat smaller. which means less fuel, which relates to less smoke when you stomp on it. part of that is the fact of the early 99's have a different turbo, i believe a smaller exhaust housing that spools quicker that eliminates some of the smoke.
a way to tell if it is an early or late 99 is that the early 99's have the powerstroke V8 badge in front of the front wheel on the fender, while the late 99's have the badge on the door, like 2000-2003.
I have an early 99 as well, was told the same thing on the PCM, I'd like to know if it makes that much difference. Before I disabled the wastegate, I could get some pretty sizeable clouds of black smoke with the superchip that is in it. After unplugging it, it spools much faster and very little smoke now. I don't know that much about my superchip, on the truck when I bought it, superchip hasn't yeilded any information my way about it. Needless to say, I will not be buying any superchip products. Can't wait till wednesday when the SCT is supposed to arrive!!!!

I got a dpc-402 and dpc-422 from Jody with the 40 hp tune. He sent the 402 by mistake so I tried out both of them before sending one back. The 422 does have a better torque converter lockup programing but other than that I could not tell any difference in how the truck ran. The 402 was $150 cheaper for me to keep because I could trade my old one in so that is the one I kept. The 422 also had a very harsh shift from 3-4 but I don't know if that was just in my truck. Mine is early 99 and came with 402 and xle 4 programing. I think he reccomends the newer 422 mainly because of the better T/C lock-up.
