Help! Asap!!

I am confused as hell! This is the deal.....'00 f-250 crew cab with 147K on it living up in WI. It has been extremely cold here as of late! I headed out last night for a trip and got about 100 miles and had a sudden loss of power at highway speeds with a spike in EGT's. These are the same symptoms as when I blew injectors in the past. However, limped it to the stealership and they ran their computer on it this morning. Shows all the electrical and injectors themselves are functioning fine. BUT, there is still a severe losss of power at highway speeds. The best I can figure it appears to be related to the fuel demand. It seems when the fuel demand gets high enough the engine appears to starve itself for fuel and losses power and begins to "knock". If you pull over and let it idle it knocks when initially pulling over but smoothes out after a bit then there is power again until the fuel demand gets to high. My train of thought is that somewhere in the fuel line there may be a block. I am thinking most likely there is an ice block at the pick up foot within the tank. When it sucks harder for fuel it pulls the ice in more and limits the fuel. When it idels it allows the fuel to buiuld back up creating power for a while. Note I have been running north to south frequently as of late. Any ideas????

Another possible thought is that the synthetic oil is dirty and not providing adequate pressure to fire the injectors at times??

Thoughts please!!!

I think your fuel is gelling. Mine always plugs up in the screen in the fuel pump first, giving the exact symptoms you describe.

And the EGT's go up if you are having a clogged/iced fuel problem? Maybe cause the boost is dropping off?

Kwik,

Last night when I limped it to the dealer I was experiencing the increased EGT's with lack of power. It could barely pull it's own weight with out hittin1250 on flat ground. On a hill you had to slow down to keep EGT below 1250. This morning when they tested it, there is just a loss of power, not really any spike in EGT. Best I can figure it is related to the fuel demand. However, I use Stanadyne in every tank. So how the gelling? How do I correct it?

So how do I fix it?? Was suppose to pull out last night.....but obviously need to correct this before I can leave! HELP!

Powerservice's Diesel 911 in the red bottle is an excellent solution.
I never leave home without some this time of year.

Shouldn't the stanadyne prevent this all together? Thought that was part of the point of it especially in the north??

Been meaning to ask you.....I am investigating doing something with the return fuel line situation.....is it a valuable investment of $430 from ITP? Mileage increase??

I've never used standyne, just Powerservice in the white bottle.
But it's only good to -20, and I have gelling anytime it get below about -5 running regular powerservice.

May I ask why the powerservice versus the stanadyne? Is powerservice the white and grey bottl stuff I have read about? Whats the procedure for the red stuff? Any local sources you know of? Fleet Farm, if you have ever heard of it?

Don't know what chains you have there, but practically all truck stops carry Diesel 911 here in Idaho. I buy mine at flying J or a local filling station.

I use regular (white bottle) powerservice I guess because that's what my Dad used, and it's available everywhere (read wal-mart). They make regular Powerservice (white bottle), Diesel lube oil additive (brown bottle), Diesel Kleen (grey bottle), and Diesel 911 (red bottle).

You should be able to find the 911 at a truck stop if you have one nearby. I'm not sure if parts stores or Fleet farm would have it, might give them a call.

I've just done the fuel return mod. I put together a system like the the kits they sell, you can look in my gallery for pics. You can get by much cheaper (under $100) doing it the way Kwik did, no external regulator and over the counter hardware store parts. Either way, it's a good investment. Good Luck.

Any mileage returns when you did the fuel return mod? Is the system you and kwik utilized as good or just good for the money? Although I hate to spend the high prices for the kit, I like the ability to just have everything all in one kit and have at it. On those kits can you adjust fuel pressure?? 68 is optimal right?
