fried part of the main cab harness in the 79 :(

I have a bad short to ground someware between the headlight switch power feed and the fusebox but before the lighting curcuit fuse.

I thought it was the headlight switch circuit breaker, but the new switch went out in 10 minutes.

Its not a small short either, it pulls about 40 amps when you jump the switch.
and do a direct pinout on the connector.
thats how my sunday went

its a daylight only truck for a while

Or you could blind people with the arc flash when you turn the switch on . Might be able to find the ground then, too. Look for the glow

I didn't think there was a fuse in the headlight circuit. Power runs from the battery(or close junction) directly to the H/L switch and then out to the various lights. There is usually a fusible link at the power connection.
The dash and dome light have a fuse, but not the headlights. Maybe I am not remembering correctly?

there is a circuit breaker for the headlights (not only the one in the switch) and a fuse for the parking light circuit.

This is why I gutted my electrical system and re-wired everything. Granted, now I have a pile of spagetti under my dash but at least I know what's what . . . sometimes.

Sounds like the perfect time to set up a relay for the headlights Bob.
