For once proactive and now serpentine squeak

For once I was proactive with changing out the serpentine belt (truck has 61K). I bought the belt from NAPA ( I have a dual Alt system). Now, when I start the truck I get a hiss like the belt is slipping as soon as the engine starts. I have also heard it when I am plowing and the plow pump is calling for juice.

Anyone else had this problem? I matched the belts when I installed the new on and everything looked fine.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Should have waited to change it out on the side of the road at 3 in the morning. Temp a balmy -10 degrees.

Been there done that as well with a NAPA belt. It was so crooked that the tensioner roller was rocking back and forth as well. Different belt cleared up the problem.

Which brings up another question, if NAPA belts suck, who has a good one without having to go to Ford or Intl?

The other one I got was from checker, it was the top of the line one for the 7.3, like 40 bucks or maybe more, not sure, but its built a lot better looking at it compared to the napa one. No squeek either. Had my truck in for a fuel filter change, asked the mechanic about the squeeky belt, he took some tire chalk, held it against the belt for a few seconds, and the squeek went away. Two weeks later it came back, so it came off and now is my emergency belt.

Good to know about the NAPA belt. I'll be sure to log that for future reference.

Pay the extra $ for the Motorcraft belt. No problems when I replaced mine. Got it at Shopdiesel.com at a decent price .

If you want a good belt that will not make any noise buy a Goodyear Gatorback belt,Dodge trucks are the worst for having belts that make noise and the Goodyear will solve the problem.I installed a Goodyear belt on my 99 powerstroke and have had no problems. The belts that NAPA sells are made by Gates and they will make noise after a while.
