High idle

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the things to check. My 351/400 in my 78 supercab idles high once given gas and rpm's raised. If I take off the air breather and flip the choke(?) down on the passenger side of the carb it purrs like a kitten. As soon as it is reved up it stays high again. Is this vaccum controlled or do I need a new auto choke thingy (highly technical term huh?) and how much do they run?

You need to take your carb off and soak it or spray it liberally in Berryman's Carb and Choke cleaner. It comes in a red blue and white can and sells at Walmart, its the only stuff I've seen peel years of varnish right off the carb. You've just got some sticky mechanisms causing problems.

Welcome to FTE!
