How many Camper Special owners out there?
#61
My latest old Ford is a 74 F250 Supercab Custom camper special. I am the third owner. It spent most of it's life in a barn. The previous owner aquired it and made it road worthy. He put about 15000 miles on it in 4 years... the odometer shows about 36000 actual miles.
The rust is starting above the rear wheels and bottom of the supercab... hope to get it taken care of and a repaint done some time within the next year.

1975 F250 Custom Supercab. 360 2bl, C6 auto 2wd. AM radio. Dead stock. 70,000 original miles. Leaks and burns oil like I had my own well! Always starts, never let me down. Used to carry an 11.5 ft camper at one time. (That's right: eleven and a half feet long truck camper!!). You should have seen the traffic part when we came down the road! Even diesel Dodges made room!! Truck gets 9 mpg loaded or empty.
Wierdest thing is the colour. The truck is bright yellow. On the door plate under colour section there is nothing showing, just blank. I'm wondering if the truck was some kind of special order. Was originally purchased in Langley BC, Canada. Door plate show built in the U.S.
I'll post some pic's, hopefully this week, of colour and VIN plate.
Any other bright yellow trucks out there with no paint code?

I had a 73 F250 Camper Special Custom that was avacado green it had a 360 with a C6 and a Dana 60 rear. I took the original spit rims off and put on a set of chrome spoke wheels on it that I paid $150.00 for. Unfortunatly, I wrecked the pickup, but I still have the motor and tranny in my 79 F150 that I am slowly working on.

I just picked up a 77 f-250 camper special that I purchased for the parts I needed for 76 f-100. When I picked it up I found it was in atleast as good a truck as my F-100 except the thing had sat for over 10 years in a airplane hanger - motor was stuck so the past owner sold it cheap- it had been his dads truck. Before i started taking the truck apart I decided to see if i could get the beast started- I dumped in all the old oil I had around the fram and it held almost 5 gallons before it started running out. about 2 weeks later I eased it over a few times changed the oil, put a kit in the carb, rigged a temp gas tank and started it up- it runs!!!
the tanks will need cleaning out and brakes need everthing but I found out the motor had been rebuilt shortly before the truck was parked and the seat and carpets were new at that time. It is a 460 /c6 with posi dana60
I will not be taking it apart

I just bought a 79 Camper special..2wd supercab...bought it for the body....real nice...I am putting it on a 4wd frame..rebuilt 460 c6..everything new..front end parts, gas tanks (dual), AC, stereo, wheels and tires. This is turning into an incredible off frame resto. I even have the factory brackets on the bed and on the bumper for the camper. Robbie 330-307-9581

Thought I would chime in as well. I have a 1976 F250 Supercab that I got out of B.C. 3 years ago. I am the 3rd owner and the truck has quite a history. It has a rebuilt 460 (Comp Cam, higher compression, cleaned up ports in heads), Holley carb, Hedman Headers, some wacky huge diameter custom single exhaust that makes it sound like a school bus, 16.5 x 10 rear wheels, 16.5 x 7 front wheels and dual tanks. Other interesting stuff is a complete dual electrical system (? stock) and rear back up lights that shine through the bumper.
It has been used a race car tow vehicle since new and I know both previous owners. It had sat for 3 years in my buddies car storage lot and had blackberry bushes growing all over the stuff in the box before I got ahold of it. All we did was put some new gas in the carb, a new battery and cranked it over. The thing started right away!!!! Moved it out, cleaned it up, replaced all ignition and fuel things, rebuilt the carb and it ran like new. Compression and oil pressure is great.
Needed to put in a new floor in the cab (rear window was left open and it flooded the interior and rotted the carpet and the body a fair bit) new back cab patch panels and replace the Ford factory filler around the second filler neck and on the cab in a couple of places. All of the underbody bolts threaded out like a new truck!!!! WOW gotta love getting a truck from no rust areas. Replaced the carpet and seat to clean it up and added more gauges to see what really is going on.
Truck runs great. Leaks a bit of oil out of the back of the oil pan if I park it up hill. It still has the 1977 Fall Nationals decals in the rear window and the old SCCA Yokohama Formula Atlantic decals in the cap. It still gets 10 mpg empty or pulling my racecar. I love it, it has so much more character than a new hauler and empty, it goes like stink.
Now to get the body finished off (even my son says it is the ugliest brown primer covered truck he has ever seen) and re-install the great condition trim. This old Camper Special is back at the racetrack sniffing racegas like it did when we were all younger.

My 76 is the truck that I got from my dad after he passed so it,s part of the family and I keep it tgged and insyred. I was slowly building it up for heavy duty use but with the F250 running I may change and mind.
It came with a 302- after 2 of those I droped in a 360 with a granny-low 4 speed- not fast but with that trans it will pull more than it can stop.
The 77 I may put back on the road but I also have picked up a 75 f250 that had been sitting about 5 years- it,s body is roughbut when I jumped it it turned over- after a couple of priming starts it runs on the gas that was still in the tank.I am thinking of cutting it down and making it in to a toy to run around the farm in. plan a wheelbase of about 92"- roll cage like a buggy, shorty bed- no doors, hood, roof etc. It,s a fe and I was told its a 390 but I bet its a 360- it has headers but a 2 bbl- I have a 4 bbk intake from a 352- just playing around in my mind. oh i paid $400 for the 77 and $120 for the 75

1974 F350 CS Longbed
I've got a beautiful '74 F350 CS Longbed, but the rear tank has a couple of holes. I took it off and can't find a replacement. The PN on the tank is D3TA 9002 YC. None of the OEM guys have ever heard of this PN or recognize the tank from the pix. Any of you guys have an odd rear tank?
Thanks!
Dave

You can easily buy replace parts...or a new tank from a company called LMC TRUCK. 1-800-541-8525 OR LMCtruck.com. They specialize in FORD replacement parts. You can find anything you want. I had them send me a cataloge for 1973-1979 trucks. If its on your Ford they have it. I have used them many times. Ordered the front gas tank from them when mine fell off the hoist and put a one foot hole in the tank.
