I get than that I get 16 to 17.5 around home on short trips & up to 21 on trips running 65 mph, All I have done is add a K&N Air Filter. I was hopeing to get more locally with a cat back system.
i get 16 -17 on the road as long i stay at 65 . i have a 01 super crew with a 5.4 4x4 and this is after the flowmaster, power programer cold air intake and t.b spacer.i got 14mpg this week in town but i love 2 eat che------
I don't know. The worst I've seen out of my 4.6L engine is 18. I logged 22.9 mpg drving it home from Denver when I initially bought it. Slowing down makes a big difference in how thirsty the engines are.
I get an average of 15 to 16 on my 97 F-150 with a 4.6. I can get as much as 22 on the highway and as high as 17 in city driving if I keep my foot out of the throttle.
Drop the overdrive out and the mileage drops in town but the performance of the truck is better.
I have a 2001 Supercrew 2WD with 4.6 and get about 15 in city and 18 on highway. I wish it were more. I wonder if the 5.4 is better on fuel in the city?
To answer your question, yes it will fractionally improve your fuel mileage, but you would probably not recoop the cost of the system from savings in fuel cost during the life of the truck.
Driving style will indeed offer the most fuel savings. Also keeping the tires properly inflated, and keeping the truck properly maintained are your most cost effective fuel economy measures.
YES- a cat-back will improve mileage. I noticed a huge difference in mainly power, there quite a few horses to free up with bigger pipes. More power DOES have the ability to turn into MPG's if you keep your foot out of it. Fords intake design flat out sucks too.. Its mainly the manifold, but getting a intake helps.
I dont know how you guys are pulling off those numbers. I get 16MPG's on the highway and 11 around town...
I have a 4.6 engine 4x4 with a bedcover. I build my speed up with out flooring it off the line,I try to stay in overdrive all that I can to keep the RPM'S down, I check tire air pressure once a week when I check my oil & other fluids, I don't idle the truck more than I have to. From what some of the other trucks are running on gas mileage I guess that I'm doing great. The system I was looking at was a Stedda Stainless Steel one, are they very loud? I want to keep the truck quite.
