Hey, you run GM 1 ton steering, right? What is the tie rod made of? I am looking at using that stuff, but don't want some wimpy tie rod that will bend under the stress of my 33s
Seriously, just want to know how heavy duty the tie rod itself is.

im a poor college student...so i was running the stock tierod with a bolt welded to it, because i had already bent it once...

i decided to either go with behind the axle hi steer, or just build a heavy **** tie rod....since im running hydro assist, i decided not to run hi-steer until i can afford some aftermarket knuckles

for now im just going to use 1.5 inch 3/8 wall dom i have laying around(same i used for my draglink) and put a peice of angle iron across the front of it, i am NOT having this happen again. its one thing to bend a tierod hitting something, but its a pile of crap when it happens just under heavy throttle/climbing

btw, anyone have any cheap sources/ideas for 220v extension cords and the wire for the + and - on a stick welder....me and my buddy got an old craftsman 180? amp, but it needs the + and - wires, and we need some way to give it a little reach. from what ive seen those extension cords are $$$$$$$$$$$$$

"Yeah man, those swampers totally ride like crap . . . my truck is all over the road and feels impossible to steer."

Nice vid Chris. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Tell Byron to get rid of that friggin squeal under his hood. That's like nails on a chalk board.

If you have a tapered reamer you could at least move your new tie rod to the top of the steering arms rather than the bottom. This would give you a couple extra inches of clearance. I don't care how heavy a tie rod you build if it comes down on rocks it's gonna be toast. When I did that with my Sami I put a jack between my frame and my tie rod while I was out on the trail. I got it close enough to straight that I never had to replace it.

Check on ebay for stereo wire for the + and - leads. You can usually buy it by the food and it's priced pretty reasonable. The 220v extensions are expensive no matter how you do it. At my dad's shop we went to Lowe's and bought the 3 lead by the foot, then the plug end and receptacle. Problem is that the wire is STIFF and still didn't cost too much less than the premade cables by the time we were done with it. I just went ahead and shelled out the $$ for a high quality extension when I got one for my house. Ebay has them but they always cost a lot to ship.

Oh, I see. I also have been building mine for 5, but I have a family to spend it on. Makes the $$ really tight. It wasn't so bad in the beginning before I had a family. Oh, and I had a decent paying job.
