Vortec-Max is 345 HP, 380 ft/lb torque. They put a 3.5" exhaust on it- has a nice rumble to it.

Guy at work has a 2500 HD, and that exhaust pipe looks like a old 4 inch stove pipe. And it doesn't drink or guzzle gas, it swims in it. Fast though, Problem is, a 150 can tow the exact same weight. Thats why were changing back, (our manager was a gm fan so we switched in the first place). Luckily, I live in Detroit market (can't believe I said that) we are the only market getting 150's, everyone else is getting Yota Tundras. We told coporate that it wouldn't be a good idea to drive foreign in Michigan

The Vortex Max 1/2 ton truck (properly equipped of course) has a higher advertised tow rating than the highest rated F150.

I imagine not, especially if you're catering to the auto industry!

Advertised, but not in real world applications. Our 150's will tow the same as the 2500HD's we had before.

Presumably not quickly, though. I wouldn't attempt to pull 10,000 lbs with either make in a 1/2T pickup, frankly.

IIRC, isn't towing capacity governed mainly by braking capacity?

Towing capcity is governed by many a thing, braking capacity being one of them.
Cooling, and tractive effort is another, as is frame strength, weight distibution etc. etc.

I wouldn't either! This was hashed over pretty thoroughly a few weeks back on another thread.

The 8.1 does need an upgrade. 330 isnt enough out of a big block 496. I think their 496's anyways. I also wouldnt tow 10,000 pounds in a half ton. Hell, most half tons weigh half of that.
