Hey, I just bought a '72 Gran Torino Sport with a "Q" code
351 cobra jet, edelbrock "torker" intake, holley carb(not sure wich one) hooker headers into dual exhaust and hurst 4-speed. Goes like a bat outta hell! Unfortunately, the body is less than perfect.
How much headache would I be looking at if I was to attempt to
swap the motor into my '67 F100. The trucks got a stock 360
with a C6. Oh yeah, the Torino was $750
351C into truck = More like brain damage than just a headache. Lot's of stuff to change and the engine you have isn't intended for torque applications. Butt, who nose? It has been done.
1977 Ford F-100
400m/c6
280,000 miles
Stock on the outside
modified/rebuilt everything
Sounds like a bit of reengineering.
Been there it was a brain drain, cost mass amounts of time, money, and patience. This is a toy truck for me, not a daily driver, so if it got to me, I could walk away and come back to it later.
Now it is almost done and has been driveable for 6 months, I get a rush everytime I drive it. People admire it, and come up to ask questions. So I guess now is the pay off, from here it was well worth it.

1977 F100 429CJ bored 30 over, Heads milled 30, edelbrock performer cam, intake, lifters, valve springs, Flat top forged pistons, polished and ported, Holley 750 Legacy, Hooker Super Comp. headers with dual Hooker Comp. exhaust and Hooker dual resonators, B&M C-6 racing tranny, with a TCI Breakaway 2600 flash stall converter, 9" rear with 2-72 gears.
Hey scotty, don't do it!!!!! I have two of these cars. One is a sport like yours with the ralley dash. The other is a two door hard top which was a mistake that wasn't supposed to be made. I am the second owner of that car and the guy who bought it new, well, had a long story about the whole thing. Turns out that when he ordered it, the salesman grabbed state police forms rather than civilian order forms and when then car finally showed up they tryed to talk him out of taking it. Well, when he looked it over, he seen all stainless braided hoses, front and rear sway bars, a 2.75 9" rear, 4 core radiator, Hurst toploader, and of course, the 351CJ Chrome air cleaner. Needless to say, he took it home. A state police interceptor in other words. "A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING. It came with the 6" skinny's and the dog dish caps. It's kind of rusty now too, but I wouldn't sell it for a Million bucks. Keep it original man, and put it back together. You got a collector. Don't bust it up and put that engine in a truck. You will regret it! Just thought that I'd add my two cents.
And hey, if ya want to sell it, let me know!!!!!!
Good luck,
Bill
Yeah, sounds like a bad idea to attempt a swap.
And you're right Bill, it's a blast to drive!
Just needed to hear what a bad idea it really was.
thanks everyone.
