New Ex Owner
Hello all, new 2002 V10 Excursion owner....Very excited, Limited with 45,000 miles.
Couple questions:
1) Best air filter element to open up and get a little better gas mileage. I would like to replace the stock round box with an open element...Whos using what??
2) I would like to replace the stock muffler with something that flows better and adds a nice tone, not too crazy since i am hauling 2 kids now!!
3) And are there any other litttle mods I can do either free or not that can help this motor out??

Welcome to FTE! Hope you enjoy your V10 as much as most of us do! They are so much fun to drive and the performance stock is unbelievable.
1. I recommend Volant Air Intakes. They look cool...and perform well too. Part #: 19068. Here is a link: http://www.volantperformance.com/Index.asp
2. Probably want to stick with FlowMaster. The 70 Series Big Block II - Three Chamber Muffler is a good choice...and is close to stock sound too. Here is a link: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/index.html
3. The best bet for these V10's is to do the scheduled maintenance. Oil changes every 3k miles using the recommended 5w20 Motorcraft oil and filter and all the other service.

Since #1 and #2 have been ansewered I can add to number three. For less than a hundred bucks you should be able to have the factory Y-pipe replaced, just do a search or look in my gallery to see how necked down the OEM one is. probaly the best single thing thats less than a $100 that can be done.
