Well its that time for me to get my transmission fixed. Because of a misunderstanding Im getting 1/2 the labor off of the repair, so Im wondering if I can get some feed back on my cost (minus) the labor. No reverse, grinding if I start off in 2nd(sometimes) most time I have to start in 1st./ A little grind going from 3rd - 4th(sometimes). Fluid checks out fine and recently had luk single flywheel and clutch installed 2 months ago-about $15050! Had the dual mass in good shape I installed at 190,000mi but was told if the clutch was to be under warranty the luk flywheel had to be installed since they couldnt resurface the dmf, now all that is under warranty.All feed back is helpful, Thanks

I got some quotes recently for rebuilding a ZF5 (Diesel Model S5-47) at $CDN2,575 with an additional $CDN600 if you don't have a core.

In US dollars this equates to about $US 2,100, Core at $US 490

The above does not include any installation costs.

 

The least expensive rebuilt zf5speed I've seen was in Dallas for around $1100.00 .

I put a bearing kit in one of mine . It was succesfull , but a real pain to put back together. The next time I bought one . I didn't feel as energetic the second time ...lol.

 

Well my price quotes vary alot in Albuquerque, NM. from $1175 to $1800(these are the $$'s I'm willing to pay) all labor included. These are just remaned 1-2 days for the install. The $1175 makes me suspicious? The $1800 is from a more reputable shop in town. My shop I am hoping will be less since they will drop 1/2 half the labor price, but unsure of what they will do yet, after getting these quotes I'll ask their quote for a reman installation first since I am guessing it'll be cheaper than rebuilding dont you think?
