Bump, cause I read about the ATF + acetone trick in the general automotive section and wanted to find the original article.

I have not seen it published in it's entirety on the web, but you could order a backissue here: https://secure.villagepress.com/stor...tail/item/1549

As for the suggestion of oil of wintergreen, try Marvel Mystery Oil.
MMO used to be located in Portchester, NY right across the street from the LifeSavers factory.
Is it any wonder where they got the idea for using it to free up stuck machinery?

As a kid I remember the smell would envelope downtown.

This candle thing is interesting... might be worth a try on the OE manifold bolts...

Here is the original FTE thread on ATF and acetone.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...se-winner.html

I have been using this since I read about it a couple of months ago. The stuff works and works well. Cheap and effective. I have a spray bottle dedicated for it in my garage and in my gun repair shop.

Tried it on a SMLE barrel/receiver that defied all attempts and every trick I know to ever loosen it. Without a new barrel, the thing was just junk and had been sitting around for a couple of years. after a 30 minute soak, the barrel came right off. That is what impressed me the most.

Then had some spring bolts on a trailer that were frozen. Worked like a charm and had them off in 10 minutes. I know I'll never go back to commercial stuff.

Hmm, I'll have to try the atf trick, I've always used pb blaster but I was working i the middle of nowhere needed some penetrating oil, stopped at a little hardware store all they had was liquid wrench in a little plastic bottle , I have to admit it really worked well. I work in the marine industry and have to deal with rust and salt corrosion daily. Good thread.
