Thumbs down Va Bill to restrict antique vehicle use

Virginia residents, please consider contacting your delegate to oppose HB288.
This is significant legislation that could impact all of us who own antique vehicles. Not to mention, legislation passing like this in VA could easily move on to neighboring states if *they* deem it successful.

Bill Summary:
H.B. 288 will deny Virginia citizens the opportunity to enjoy the occasional long-range pleasure drive in their antique vehicles and disregards the immeasurable time, money and thought automotive hobbyists, especially antique vehicle owners, invest in their cars.

H.B. 288 discourages owners of qualifying vehicles 25-years old and older to register as antiques thereby potentially increasing their use if registered as daily drivers.

H.B. 288 ignores the fact that many antique vehicles are insured under policies that already limit their use, require regular use vehicles for each household member with a driver’s license, and are required to be stored in a locked and enclosed garage.

The bill's status can be found here http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...=bil&val=hb288

they care because antique vehicles do not need a safety or emmissions inspection.. therefore, they could be in not-in-safe operating condition.. this blows. i had an antique vehicle for a while till i sold it. as far as i knew, i couldn't drive it unless i was checking the operation, going to a club meeting, or driving to/from a repair shop. i still drove it every day for a while... i don't think cops REALLY hassle you that bad.. this sucks if this happens, though. i don't want to see it go through..

I like the part about not being used as work vehicles, it makes me mad everytime I see someone with antique plates hauling a load of manure in their rusted, beat up, pickup. I have a '64 F250 with normal plates. Why pay more insurance, inspection, and taxes? Because I haul things on it, mulch, dirt, and occasionally pull a trailer with it. It's not a junker, either, as a matter of fact, it's 100% rust-free (tailgate is perfect). Good original everything, including paint and interior. But no antique plates. What is a 390, 4-speed, and 4.56's good for besides hauling anyway?

But we do have other vehicles with antique tags, these are used for pleasure only. But 50 miles, come on. Give me at least 100, preferably the 250 currently alloted.
