Programmers
Also whats a good estimate if there is one for gained power by adding an intake, exhaust, and inter cooler?
I am thinking about getting a 6.0 and I am curious if I can keep up with my friends who have diesels with programmers.
Thanks

Vic... You out there????
I can answer this, though =o)
The SCMT makes serious gains and is painstakingly tested for reliability, drivability, etc...
The SCT tuner can be programmed by an SCT dealer, and the end result will depend on that dealers individual skill.
It's the way to get the MOST you can out of it, but squeezing more power will result in more soot.
SCT and SCMT both make fine products, but with a different purpose.
SCMT is primarily for the guy who wants to make power, have better shifting and an extended RPM curve, maybe add intake, exhaust and gauges and leave it at that.
SCT is for the guys who aren't afraid to really go for it, the guys who like to stack products or run propane/nitrous, etc...more for the hardcore guys who are more concerned with squeaking out as much power as possible.
Of course, this is a generalization, becuase SCT also has toned down files which have more safety margin built in.
SCMT or SCT, either way you are getting a good product.

P.S. - I am just kidding about the stacking MATT I know you are all against it. I am goin Snow Performance Stage 3 before I do anything else.

Some people will prefer a custom tune, but some prefer a tune done by a huge company who was extremely paranoid about safety/warranty issues during the programming process.
It's just a different demographic.
What I mean is, they are all "custom" to a certain degree.
SCMT programmers have 3 different programs in it.
The tuning is standardized, tested on many trucks and has a safety margin built in.
SCT simply allows you to have custom changes for special wants or special modifications.
There is burden and blessing in this, because changes often are "experimental" in comparison and will vary greatly from shop to shop.
How does "Bob" at billybobs custom tuning know how high he can set the injector timing without blowing the truck up?
It's just a different kind of customer.....
It takes thousands of dyno hours to really learn a vehicle type to the fullest.
I'll repeat this again, sort of as a disclaimer:
Both are great products for their intended purposes and target audience.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
). Superchips has obviously done their homework on the 6.0 tunes. We have heard nothing but good things about it. If you go with SCT... You NEED to do your homework first! Ask around, go to all the truck forums, study sites on the internet... You will see a pattern when you do this. There are a handful of tuners out there that are VERY highly respected and used by the owners of the fastest 6.0L trucks. Some have been mentioned on this thread already. Like Vic said, you don't want to get stuck with some "Quack with a laptop" making tunes!
To answer your original question- The tune that I have from Innovative Diesel is the Xtreme Street Tune. It dynos at 420rwhp and 790rwtq. I have seen 1/4mile times around 13.7sec from people with this tune. I should say that I have a 4' turbo-back exhaust and AFE Stage 2 intake, as well.

I didn't knock the off the shelf boxes. I just don't understand why you would purchase a one size fits all programmer when you could get custom (from a well known vendor). You can have them from mild to wild. To each there own though...

If you don't want to do your homework or deal with a smaller shop, the mass market products are the way to go. Some people just want a no nonsense reliable tune they know thousands of people are already running...
Others want to really go for it.
Only a small part of SCT was owned by superchips (and is not anymore), and any similarities in files was due to CJ and I exchanging R&D files, WAY back in the beginning a couple years ago.
Honestly, much of what I did could not have been done without CJ and his software, and for a good month or so were were sending files back and forth to each other, showing what we had found.
This is why the power curves are similar, but I was forced to add more safety margin to the tunes for a mass-market product, not to mention, no two people tune exactly the same.
Even though SCT base files and superchips inc do share some similarities in tuning style based one some early cross-communiction and aggressive people tuning who were not afraid to try new things, they are still different tunes.

As for why I chose this tuner? Well, it cost me $306, I don't have to worry about the tune being too radical, takes 10 minutes to install, and no special tools required, which is not an issue becuase I regularly tinker with my self modded Toyota Land Cruisers, but I'm just lazy and cautious when it comes to my daily driver. I want to get in it, turn the key and drive it with no worries or gauge watching.
P.S. - Why won't this thing show my sig when I select that option? I hafta edit the post everytime to paste my sig in.. GRRRR!
