Ken - That is a total bummer on the highboy. Sorry to hear that it had to go. I am fortunate that I am in such a rural area that I don't have to worry about such things. I went commerical plates on my truck only because I thought I was going to be towing a large trailer when I went back into road racing and didn't want anything to restrict me regarding the towing weight.

My F150 has passenger plates...got pulled over once for it too....dumb yorkville cops.
told me i had the "wrong plates"
NO DUMMY, it's light enough for them....
NY used to restrict pickups with commercial plates from Parkways, such as the Taconic...now, PICKUPS can travel on it, even with commercial plates.

Funny this was drug up again...
I FAILED emissions this year - still haven't gotten it sorted out.
The machine AGAIN complained about O2 monitor and O2 heater monitor "not ready".
My V10 doesn't care. Heavy-duty truck motor, and all that.
It might just come down to me having to register commercially at 8800lbs. Anything over 8500+ is just the tailpipe sniffer test.
Oh well... with a 5600lbs pickup, I didn't really drive on the parkways anyway, even with the cap and passenger plates. I was always waiting for a trooper to pull me over. Besides, it visibly scared the bejeesus out of old ladies and other week-hearted individuals
