I purchased a transfer case for my 62 4x4. It is a Dana 24 from a 1960 4x4. The guy who I bought it from said it would work, when I got home it doesn't look like it woult bolt up. I was wondering if I'm missing a crossmember or if thes t-case is the wrong one.
The 60 and 62 should be very similar. the T-Case bolts to the crossmember with verticle bolts at the very top with pucks like the cab mounts. I saw no revisions in the 62 shop manual supplement to say otherwise.
Are you sure it is a ford sourced unit? and not a NAPCO OR M/H conversion unit?
Yes, the Dana 24 is for Ford/Mercury (for F250) since the front differential is on the driver's side of the front axle. The Dana 23 is the same transfer case, but it is used for GM products that have the transfer case mounted on the passenger side of the transmission for the differential on the passenger side of the front axle. If you measure everything carefully and the measurements match, it should fit. I believe Napcos were also mounted on the passenger side and used the Dana 23 case, but can't be sure about that. Not at all sure about the Marmons. You don't mention if your truck is an F100 or F250. That may also make a difference. The F100 4x4 had only 4H, neutral and 2H while the F250s had 4L, N, 2H and 4H. I am not sure what Dana model number the F100 4x4s had.
my 1962 f-100 has a divorced transfer case with a 4lo, neutral, 2High, 4High. I dunno what transfer case it has in it. I'll check tonight before i go to bed. Its either a dana 24 or an np 205, i dunno what.
