'53-'56 Running Board Step-Plates...

Anybody here have running board step plates on their pickup? I was looking at a pair that Speedway carries. They offer quite a few different designs, including ones for '53-'56 effies for $50. I would like to see if anybody has any pics of them on their truck.

I have a set on my 56 Panel, check my gallery. I see them on most 53-56s.

Most of the completed (or nearly completed) trucks I see have them, but mine does not.

Thanks for posting up guys As for mounting them, do you just center the plate in relation to the door...or did you figure out where you would step on the running board?

I don't put my feet on them for the exact reason you don't want to But, there are those passengers who just look at you with a stupid look on there face when you tell them, "don't step on the running boards." They just don't understand. I'm still not sure if I want to put the plates on.

I see cars at car shows with fiberglass boards. They often have signs that say: "Not a step!".

Mine is just an old beat up truck (not for show)...yep I step on them.

I don't have the steps but I saw some nice rubber strips that mount to the top of the ridges on the boards to protect them. I think they were in the Sacarmento Fords catalog. Very neat looking with chrome tips.

In the spirit of my early hotrodding days I removed most of the unnecessary stuff from my truck: badging, door handles and step plate among them. Gave the step plates to a friend who wanted them for his "T" along with an Ansen Jr. Posishifter. He gave me a set of Classic Instrument gauges. I never could figure out those step plates. Now I don't worry about them.

I've had fiber glass one on mine for the past 16 years and I actually step on them or the step plate and don't have any problems. I installed a 1/2"X8" piece of deck between the brace and the running boards. I just placed mine where I would step when getting in/out of the truck.

I plan on using my step plates and the running boards to get in and out. That's why they are there!

A tip for installing the plates--in you SOCKS, get in and out of the truck several times and note where your foot lands and is most comfortable. That's where the plate goes. It turns out that spot is just forward of the center of the door opening.

I sense a poll coming on here.

I purchased new repo running boards for my 51 F1 which is my daily driver. While getting into the cab one rainy day I slipped stepping up into the cab and banged my shin pretty good. I then decided to put Herculiner bed coating on them, they may not look great to some but for a daily driver that coating has worked out good for me. My only regret looking back is, I wish I had taken them to the Line-X dealer and had them sprayed when I first recieved them prior to installing them. Line-X I understand can vary the texture of the coating, I would have had them done in a finer texture. You can see pictures of them in my gallery.

Beware! If you put these step plates on you are leaving the light side and going towards the dark side! It is a step on that slippery slope.....

PS: I do step on my running boards and also stand on them to get into the bed. My son likes to stand on them as we drive on our soccer comples picking up trash.
