engine component id's please

Just tore down my fe that ate up two cam lobes on a comp 268 cam. I had this motor built about 10 years ago when I was 16 and didn't ask to much when it was built. Heres what I've got as far casting numbers
Block D4TE (105 backwards)
Heads D2TE-AA
Crank 2U
Rods C1AE-B
Any help is much appreciated

An interesting combo of parts according to my charts.
Block-D4TE(is there a letter after that) if not it is shown as a MD/HD block with either 3.875 bore or 4.05 bore with reinforcement webs.
Heads-D2TE are a common '72-'76 360/390/428(?) head without AIR ports
Crank-2U is a '66-'73 3.784 stroke 390 crank
Rods-C1AE-B is shown as a 352HP rod(long rod not used in the 390) with 13/32" rod bolts. Could the number possibly be C1AE-E??

checked the numbers again and the rods definently have C1AE-B stamped on one side and A59 on the other side. the block has nothing after D4TE. How could this motor have these rods in it?

they will run with those long rods but ussually not very long usually until you rap it up pretty good then they start to hit and its all over

Those early 352HP long rods did have the larger cross-section beam like the 390 rods. They're plenty strong, unlike the standard 360 rods, which you would NOT want to use in a 390. The standard 352/360 long rods are the ones that start to stretch with high rpm's when used in 390's.

Unless something got swapped around at the machine shop, it's highly unlikely you have those rods. Not saying it's impossible, just doesn't make sense. Recheck those numbers.

Maybe the machinist figured he'd give you a little more compression with the longer rods? I'd guess you had a late truck 390 rebuilt?

The builder must have gotten creative with the pistons, if you do indeed have C1AE-B rods, as they are longer than standard 390 rods.

The block you have is a standard light truck 360/390 block, probably came with the heads. It is a very good block actually, with higher strength metal and reinforced main webbing.

rechecked all rods again. the C1AE-b is very clear on all rods as is A59 stamped on the backside. should I go with some standard 390 rods when I rebuild or try this combo again. the first time I had this motor rebuilt it had over 200k on it and after I put it my 67 sb I was very hard on it. the only reason I am rebuilding it now is because of the 2 flat lobes on the cam.

Interesting. I think I would find a set of regular 390 rods and use them. With the piston selection out there, you'll either have the pistons above deck at TDC, or quite a bit below deck. With the 390 rods and the correct pistons, you can get it right there.

Plus, you can sell those rods for $$$.

well thanks everyone for the imput. i think i'll find some 390 rods and go from there. i also discovered the pistons to be keith black silvolites p/n 1139, if that makes a difference.
