Adjusting caster? Manuals says no, mechanic says yes...

I brought my 78 F100 2x4 to get aligned, but they couldn't fix the caster because they didn't have the tools. They said the left side caster was 5.8 and right was 4.6, but not to worry about it. Should I go to another shop and have caster adjusted? (They didn't remember what the ride height was, but my manual says those caster numbers are probably out of spec).

What I need to know is: The mechanics told me they can adjust the camber. BUT NOTE: Both my Ford manual and Chilton manual say my year F100 with I-beams CANNOT adjust camber and caster (only older models can). What gives?? Also, I don't need new springs, do I?

Is there anything else I should change before bringing it in? (I already replaced the radius arm bushings).

You have to bend the i-beams to adjust the camber. I have had it done so it is possible.

I had to replace my SPRINGS at one point so the wheel alignment could be done.
It's entirely possible ,how many miles on your truck?

LAST EDITED ON 06-Nov-01 AT 08:03 PM (EST)[p]Take a hard look at the rubber bushings that the radius rods go to under the cab mount. If there dryed out bad it alows the axle to move back a little and messes the caster.

Pete, There are still good tire stores around that can bend the I-beams and get you riding correctly again.
